ABOUT ME!

Picture
Christy R. Newsome, E-RYT 500, YACEP,
Professional Yoga Therapist*, based in Ormond Beach, Florida (as of June 2026)

My philosophy is that yoga can help create space and freedom in the mind and body. I encourage students to honor their bodies and to let go of ego. I focus on breath awareness and FEELING a pose in the body, rather than achieving some idea of a "perfect pose." My goal is to help my students find the union of mind-body-spirit that is at the heart of yoga!

I have been practicing yoga for over 25 years and teaching since 2011. I received my 200-hour certification through
Peachtree Yoga Center and my 500-hour and professional yoga therapy certification through Etowah Valley Yoga. I am registered through Yoga Alliance at the E-RYT 500 level (their highest level) and a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP). I was the designer and co-lead trainer for the 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program at (RYS200) at Giving Tree Yoga in Smyrna, GA for seven years, graduating 51 new yoga teachers.

I started yoga for the physical practice, but I kept coming back to my mat for the benefits I had no idea I would find. Growing up, I was a competitive athlete and as an adult, I began to experience physical problems, stemming from the intensity and injuries of competitive sports. After trying everything western medicine had to offer, I decided to pursue a natural approach to my health. A regular yoga practice (along with many healthy habits) truly improved the quality of my life. I knew I had to share what I had experienced with others!

I am a teacher at heart. I was the director of technology & computer teacher for 17 years at a private elementary school, teaching and supporting both children and adults before pursuing a full-time yoga career. I have a B.A. in business & computer science from Furman University & a M.S.Ed. in curriculum, instruction, & technology. I have also coached gymnastics and cheerleading over the years. I bring a kind heart to my classes and private sessions and have a passion for helping people get in touch with their best selves.

I also love reading...and coffee...and New York City...and the Braves.

Contact me today for more information, for group classes, or to schedule your private therapy session or yoga in the workplace classes!
